Commonly Asked Questions

“In-Home Services” are supports provided in your home to help with daily living tasks, personal care, and maintaining independence. This can include core- Assistance with daily life, like domestic assistance, personal hygiene, meal preparation, mobility assistance, and more.

You must be an NDIS participant with funding in your plan for in-home support. Eligibility generally requires having a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to carry out daily activities.

Examples include:

  • Assistance with personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming)
  • Help around the house (cleaning, laundry, meal prep)
  • Mobility support (moving safely, transfers, perhaps using aids)
  • Support to maintain a safe home environment
  • Assistance with accessing community, appointments, or social activities (if part of your plan)

Your NDIS plan needs to have an allocated budget under the relevant categories (usually Core Supports or perhaps Capacity Building, depending on the support) for in-home services. You work with your plan manager/planner/support coordinator to include the support you need.

 The steps are typically:

  • Confirm you are an NDIS participant and your plan supports in-home services.
  • Identify what supports you need (which daily tasks are difficult, what your goals are).
  • Choose a provider (registered, good reputation, aligned with your preferences).
  • Coordinate with your provider to schedule services, clarify what is included.
  • Monitor and review, especially if your support needs change.

Yes. The support must be “reasonable and necessary” under NDIS rules (i.e. related to your disability, helping meet your goals, value for money). Also, some things are not covered (e.g. general everyday living expenses not related to disability, certain non-evidence-based therapies). Always check your service agreement and plan.

You can review your needs with your support coordinator or during your plan review. If your disability or functional needs change, it may justify increasing support hours or level. It’s important to document changes and have evidence where possible.

Many providers try to maintain consistency with support workers so you feel comfortable and communication is smooth. You can ask your provider what their staffing model is, whether there are regular workers, whether you can request particular workers, etc.

Our in-home staff are trained to meet NDIS quality and safety standards. They have required qualifications (e.g. Certificate in personal care, first aid, etc.), undergo background checks, and follow infection control, safety, medication administration, and emergency procedures.

We want you to feel comfortable. You can:

  • Contact us directly to discuss issues.
  • Ask to adjust timings, tasks, or worker assignments.
  • Use your NDIS plan review or support coordinator to request formal changes.
  • Give feedback formally (we often have feedback channels)
